Like many other Relics with turn timers, this can be intentionally set up so that it triggers at the start of combat, allowing the player to play their first turn with 1 extra orb slot.
The Inserter encourages a very slow, orb-focussed strategy, where the inserter can provide long-term value. In any combat shorter than 6 turns, this is often worse than Runic Capacitor, which provides its orb slots immediately, and is a ShopRelic, costing only ~150 gold.
Synergy[]
This relic has strong synergy with Consume, which looks to sacrifice the player's orb slots for Focus - one of the most powerful buffs on the Defect.
