Council of Ghosts

Council of Ghosts is an event found exclusively in Act 2. A group of apparitions surrounds you, with one offering you a taste of their power.

Dialogue

Encounter
As you continue your ascent, thick black smoke begins to billow out of the ground and walls around you, coalescing into three masked forms that start to speak.
Shape #1: "Another puppet of Neow I think."
Shape #2: "AGREED! SHE ALWAYS MAKES THE FUNNEST TOYS!"
You notice an over-sized grin as the third addresses you.
Shape #3: "Ignore the others... Would you like a taste of our power?""
Accept
Shape #3: "Excellent!"
As the ghostly shape speaks, you notice its large mouth opening wider and wider. Thick black smoke spews forth and envelops the room. You cannot see or breathe...
Just before you lose consciousness, the sensation stops.
Whatever those things were, they are gone now. You continue on, feeling rather hollow.
Refuse
Shape #3: "How disappointing..."
Shape #1: "You will join us sooner or later."
Shape #2: "HA HA HA HAHAHA!"
The shapes fade away, leaving only the unnerving laughter ringing in your ears.

Strategy

This event is one of the most high-risk, high-reward. On one hand, you lose a hefty amount of your max HP, making it considerably harder to survive combats. On the other hand, that risk is offset by Apparitions obtained. Its Intangible can make a big incoming attack trivial. There are a few things to consider before you choose [Accept].

• Unupgraded Apparition has Ethereal. This usually means you have to immediately use it the turn you draw it or it will be removed for the duration of that battle.
  • By utilizing Discard and Scry, you can move unwanted Apparition safely to your Discard Pile for further use.
  • Toxic Egg upgrades all Apparitions obtained, removing this downside.
  • Strange Spoon will not save Apparition from being Exhausted by Ethereal. It does have other synergy with it, as explained below.
• Cards that allow Apparition to be played multiple times, like Burst or Echo Form, greatly improve the value you can get from it, as you will get 2 Intangible from one use, extending its duration for a turn.
• Strange Spoon can possibly save some Apparition after it is used, discarding it instead of Exhausting it, allowing more uses from it.

Trivia

• This is one of a few events that refers to Neow; the others are Cursed Tome and Sensory Stone.
  • This event also reveals that Neow is female.
• The shapes' knowledge of Neow and her power possibly means that they are of the similar caliber as her — possibly as another group of Ancients.
