Claw is a common Attack card for The Defect. For zero Energy, Claw deals an escalating amount of damage that also amps up your other Claw cards. As a common card, Claw can be found as a post-battle reward and be purchased from the Merchant.

Upgrading Claw increases the base damage of the card from 3 to 5.

Claws added to your deck after Claw is played, such as through Discovery, Hello World or an AttackPotion Attack Potion, do not have their damage increased while they aren't part of your deck.

Strategy[]

  • Claw is a card that wants to be drawn and played as much as possible to stack up huge numbers. However, the support needed to execute this card's potential makes it not ideal for many decks, since a card like Streamline+ fills the niche of Claw without being as hard to pick.
  • To get the most out of Claw, acquire only enough copies as to be drawn consistently as to not interfere with other deck functions such as Block or Card Draw. Consistency is better achieved by removing underperforming cards rather than by adding too many Claws.
  • Upgrading Claw isn't recommended - instead, upgrade your support and draw cards like Skim and Scrape. Playing your non-upgraded Claws more often not only gives you bonus damage, but also deals the damage you've already accumulated.
  • Adding more card draw like Skim, Scrape, UnceasingTop Unceasing Top, will help Claw reach its fullest potential. There are some good colorless card draw cards that also work well with Claw:
  • Replaying a Claw with Hologram and Echo Form helps accelerate claw damage, though these effects may be better reserved for other cards with more powerful effects.
  • Adding Recycle to strip irrelevant cards from the deck allows the consistency of Claw plays to scale over the battle. Adding an UnceasingTop Unceasing Top and exhausting every other card lets The Defect go infinite, though such combos still requires somehow generating block when against many enemies.
  • All for One allows for even more Claws to be played, alongside other potentially important 0-cost cards such as Beam Cell for more damage and Icon Vulnerable Vulnerable, and/or Steam Barrier for Block, etc.

Update History[]

  • Weekly Patch 50: The Final Act
    • Claw card gets VFX.
  • Weekly Patch 27: Hello World
    • This week adds the long anticipated third character into the game!
    • A new character with unique mechanics, keywords, and art.

Trivia[]

  • Before release the name of this card was "Gash" and was an Uncommon card.
  • It takes 8 plays of Claw+ before a Claw+ outdamages a Streamline+. This means it takes 17 full Claw+ plays for the total damage to overtake 17 Streamline+ plays.
